One week to go before Christmas and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to a well earned rest. Personally I can't wait to get home see the family and friends eat wayyy to much, drink way to much and also get rehearsing ready to play some epic gigs in January. Apart from shopping, partying and wrapping presents this week, I've been busy organising and promoting a few gigs!
Firstly, January 2nd at The Musician in Leicester; this gig is part of the Original Bands Showcase (OBS). This is a kind of 'battle of the bands' competition where bands from around Leicester and Leicestershire play for a place at Leicester's Summer Sundae Weekender Festival held at De Montfort Hall. This year, a new section of the OBS has been added to incorporate acoustic artists and singer songwriters called OBS Unplugged and this is the event we are playing in.
Here is the link to the OBS Unplugged Facebook page. Please feel free to come along to this event if you are around. It should be a good night and of course I'll tell you all about it in the blog.
On January the 14th Davenport Folk play at the Crumblin' Cookie in Leicester. This gig is an acoustic night featuring Refuge, Buenos Aires and Grace and the Magic Roots.
The next gig that we have coming up in January is at Derby University's Acadamy Bar. This gig is part of the January Re-Freshers events that are taking place. Unfortunately, promotions for this event aren't under way yet so I don't have any flyers to post etc. More on this as it comes!
Finally, is a gig that I am orgnising myself. The Gentle-Folks Ball on the 20th January takes place at the Donkey in Leicester. Featuring Sophie Mapplebeck (of Derby Uni), Thomas Shepherd, Davenport Folk and headlining The Kirkland Turn.
The Facebook events page is right here. So feel free to check it all out.
So that's about all for gigs in January at the moment! Band Practises should be taking place this week and we're hopefully going to be joined on Trumpet for some gigs by a friend of the bands Craig Neal. Any more info I have coming up I'll post, along with pictures from all these gigs and information on how they went etc!
Thanks for reading :)

Proposal and Objectives
This blog is partly because of a module on my university course called proffessional practise. The aim of this module is to help students in developing a professional profile and to document this through a logbook or a blog. Obviously, this is my method of documentation however I also want this blog to be more than just a 'box ticker'. I would like this blog to not only fulfill the requirements of my degree but also to document the journey of myself and my band through the next year (or more) and the gigs we play, the people we meet and anything else interesting that happens on the journey of an unsigned band.
Hopefully this blog could be used as a form of help to other unsigned bands in knowing what to do or not do and how to get yourself into a situation of potentially having a career in music.
As far as the band is concerned, we formed in march 2010 from a former band which we all played in called The Lowreys ( www.myspace.com/thelowreysmusic ). This band was together for about 4 years and we played many gigs around Leicester and began to get some air play on local radio stations Take Over Radio and Leicester Sound as well as playing Glastonbudget Festival in 2009. In September 2009 The Lowreys seperated as we all moved around to Universities all over the country. From here I began writing songs for my course and soon had a set that i wanted to perform. After getting in contact with my former band mates Nick (bass) and Sean (guitar) we formed the new band Davneport Folk.
Over the next year, we aim to get the band up and running, doing gigs all over the Midlands in Leicester, Derby and Nottingham and expand further until we are gigging all over the country. We also aim to produce an album and get it onto itunes, sell it at gigs and possibly even try and get it into some record shops. This blog will be a document of these activities.
Thankyou very much for reading
